The Wall Street Journal reported that 3 Iranian Revolutionary Guards' warships had harassed two US Coast Guard vessels in the Gulf, adding that the accident occurred on April 2, shortly before the start of the Vienna negotiations on the nuclear deal, and it was not disclosed before.

US Navy officials confirmed that the Iranian warships approached two US coast guard vessels that were patrolling the southern Gulf, and indicated that one of the Iranian boats approached the two vessels to a distance of less than 70 meters, and described the boats ’movements as unsafe and not professional.

The US Navy officials said that the two American ships issued warnings to the Iranian boats and conducted a defensive maneuver within 3 hours.

On April 15, 2020, the US military said that 11 ships belonging to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard approached a dangerous distance from US military ships in the Gulf, describing the move as dangerous and provocative.

And recently, negotiations were launched in Vienna to revive the nuclear deal between Iran, the United States, Britain, France, China, Russia and Germany, after the administration of former US President Donald Trump withdrew from it in 2018 and imposed economic sanctions on Tehran.
