Monday, the Strasbourg prosecutor's office requested the referral to the assizes of Jean-Marc Reiser for assassination.

The latter admitted to having killed the Strasbourg student Sophie Le Tan in September 2018.

This referral to an Assize Court where he will be judged marks the end of the information procedure for the indicted party.

"A partial dismissal for the facts of kidnapping and forcible confinement was also required," added Laurent Guy, deputy prosecutor of Strasbourg, in a press release.

One and only suspect

Sophie Le Tan had disappeared on September 7, 2018, her 20th birthday, when she was going to visit an apartment in Schiltigheim, north of Strasbourg.

Author of the real estate ad, Jean-Marc Reiser, 60, was arrested in September 2018, when traces of blood voluntarily erased had been found in his apartment, as well as the DNA of the student on a saw in his cellar.

Sophie Le Tan's incomplete skeleton was found in the forest in October 2019, but it was not until last January that Jean-Marc Reiser, the one and only suspect, stopped denying his responsibility and confessed to the murder.

Reiser acknowledges the homicide, but not the premeditation

“The Public Prosecutor at the Strasbourg Judicial Tribunal, by final indictment of today sent to the examining magistrate, requested the indictment of Jean-Marc Reiser before the Bas-Rhin Assize Court of the head of 'assassination, for the acts committed on September 7, 2018 on Sophie Le Tan, "detailed Laurent Guy in his press release.

Jean-Marc Reiser, if he confessed to having killed the young woman, on the other hand affirmed that he had not premeditated his gesture.

A grueling reconstruction took place in mid-February in Schiltigheim, during which the suspect was questioned at length about his actions in his apartment, as well as in the basement of the building, the various scenes of the crime.

The investigating judge in charge of the case must now issue an order for referral, whether or not it meets the prosecution's requisitions.
