Former President of the Democratic Research Institute Yang Jeong-cheol, also referred to as President Moon Jae-in's “regret,” returned from the United States last week.

Since last January, I have been working as a visiting senior researcher at the US Think Tank Institute for Strategic International Studies and CSIS, and returned after three months.

In addition, in line with the situation in which the Democratic Party was defeated in the last re-election and the election of a new leadership, some of the passports are convinced that former President Yang, who returned to Korea early, will not play a role in re-creating the regime in the presidential election phase.

Director Yang Jeon is known to only contact those around him and refrain from outside activities.

Earlier, at the end of last year, President Yang was asked to go to the United States after receiving a request from the Blue House staff and family members as the rumors of the replacement of the then-president Noh Young-min's secretary office.

In the last year's representative system of Lee Hae-chan, Director Yang was evaluated as the leader of the Democratic Research Institute, a think tank of the Democratic Party, leading the overwhelming victory in the 21st general election.

Yang Jeon is known to have said that he will return only after September, when the presidential candidate race is completed, but there have also been observations that he will return after the 4/7 re-election ends.

Inside and outside the party, there is a prospect that major runners in the upcoming presidential election will again turn to President Yang for help.

In fact, Mr. Yang has been in contact with candidates in the passport, including former CEO Nak-yeon Lee, Gyeonggi Governor Lee Jae-myung, former Prime Minister Jeong Sye-gyun, former presidential secretary chief Lim Jong-seok, Gyeongnam Governor Kim Gyeong-su, and Rep. Lee Gwang-jae.

Some observers point out that former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol, who has emerged as a leading player in the opposition, and Yang Jeon Yang are close to each other, and some observers say that they can share rapport with former President Yoon.

However, former President Yang, as a key aide to President Moon Jae-in, has said, "I want to protect my loyalty as the last secretary after retirement."
