Hanover (dpa / lni) - The Federal Association for Natural Gas, Petroleum and Geoenergy (BVEG) wants to provide information on Tuesday (11 a.m.) about the role of fossil fuels in the restructuring of the energy landscape.

Successful climate protection requires much more than the consistent expansion of wind and solar energy, according to the association.

Conventional energy sources also played an important role in the changeover.

Conventional energy sources currently generate almost two thirds of electricity in Germany, where 6.1 billion cubic meters of natural gas and 1.9 million tons of crude oil were produced in 2019.

Natural gas power plants can, among other things, compensate for electricity fluctuations from renewable energy sources, which are subject to considerable production fluctuations depending on the weather and the season.
