The perpetrator initially managed to escape undetected, but "through the evidence obtained at the scene of the crime" the man known to the police could be identified promptly, the police said on Monday about the incident on Friday night.

Witnesses took pictures of what was happening in the tram and called the security forces for help.

The video later also circulated on social networks.

According to the police, the external injuries to the victim were only minor.
