Russia announced the expulsion of a Ukrainian diplomat in response to the expulsion of a Russian diplomat posted to Kiev, who was already responding to the ousting of a consul in St. Petersburg.

While Russia announced the withdrawal of its troops who were carrying out exercises in annexed Crimea and near the Ukrainian borders, Emmanuel Macron asked Moscow to "

engage in good faith and in a lasting manner for the reduction of tensions with the 'Ukraine

 '.

The French president also mentioned the other major subject of tension between Westerners and Russia: the file of the opponent Navalny.

It was during an interview with his Russian counterpart on Monday afternoon, April 26, that the French president put the subject back on the table.

After his European partners, Emmanuel Macron told Vladimir Putin of his "

serious concern

" regarding the state of health of Alexeï Navalny.

He also called for “

respect for his fundamental rights

 ”.

After 24 days of hunger strike to denounce his prison conditions, the opponent announced on Friday that he was going to start eating again.

The movement of Alexeï Navalny in the sights of Moscow

The offensive against his camp now exceeds his person and his main lieutenants.

On Monday, the Moscow prosecutor's office suspended the activity of the 37 offices of Alexeï Navalny in Russia: ban on publishing on the internet or meeting, while the trial against these structures is held.

The prosecution has in fact asked to qualify these offices and other organizations linked to it as extremists.

This would incur heavy prison sentences for the collaborators and supporters of Alexei Navalny.

Thursday will be held a second preliminary hearing in camera.

For Amnesty International, these measures are only aimed at destroying the movement of Alexei Navalny.
