China News Service, April 26. The Ministry of Natural Resources released on the official website on the 26th the "Survey Report on the Topography and Landforms of the Diaoyu Island and its Affiliated Islands" (hereinafter referred to as the "Report").

According to reports, the report systematically sorts out historical long-term survey data and combines the latest high-resolution satellite remote sensing survey results to continuously track and master the seabed topography and landforms of the Diaoyu Island and its affiliated islands, further supplementing and improving the basic geographic data of the Diaoyu Island and its affiliated islands. The system plays an important supporting role in resource management and ecological protection of the Diaoyu Islands.

In terms of the purpose of the survey, the report is clear. Through sorting out historical survey results and conducting special investigations, high-resolution island topographic data (including island land and areas below 30 meters) of the Diaoyu Island and its affiliated islands are obtained, and the latest large-scale island topographical topic is compiled Figure.

In terms of survey content, the report pointed out that based on the results of long-term historical surveys, the latest high-resolution satellite remote sensing and other survey methods were used to conduct surveys of island landforms and shallow sea topography. The survey area covers the main islands of Diaoyu Island and its affiliated islands.

In terms of survey results, the report takes Diaoyu Island, Beixiaodao and Nanxiaodao as examples to briefly introduce and display some of the latest survey results:

—— Survey results of the topography of the Diaoyu Islands

The Diaoyu Island belongs to the erosion and denudation of low hills with steep terrain. The ridge line of the central mountain range runs east-west, connecting the main peak Gaohua Peak (362 meters above sea level) and Shennong Peak (320 meters above sea level). It is located in the central and southern part of the island, forming a slightly slower north slope and a south slope Steep terrain pattern.

Figure 1 and Figure 2 are the remote sensing image and geomorphological map of the Diaoyu Islands, respectively.

There is a relatively wide shallow sea area near the Diaoyu Island, especially near Dongdiaojiao, where a wide underwater shoal develops and is connected with the shoals around Feiyu Island.

Figure 3 is a topographical map of the shallow area 30 meters from the coast of the Diaoyu Islands.

——Beixiaodao topography and landform

Beixiaodao is an eroded and denuded hilly landform with large undulations. The coast type is a bedrock coast with strong sea erosion. There are sea erosion landforms such as sea erosion cliffs, sea erosion platforms, and sea erosion pillars.

The Lion Peak (118 meters) in the southeast of Beixiao Island and its northwestern Yingfeng (125 meters), Lianhua Rock (62 meters) and Kong Mingshi (62 meters) are three independent sharp rocks, which are connected by a sea erosion platform.

Figure 4, Figure 5 and Figure 6 are the remote sensing image map, geomorphology map and field observation photos of Beixiaodao Island respectively.

The olive gate between the North Island and the South Island is about 10 meters deep and 200 meters wide.

The coastal shallow sea area (below 30 meters) of the two islands is connected in one piece. The southwest side is narrow, while the northeast side is wide and extends nearly 2 kilometers, and a series of tidal trenches are distributed in between.

There are a large number of tidal trenches and reef flats perpendicular to the coast on the southwest and northeast coasts of Beixiaodao.

Figure 7 is a topographic map of Beixiaodao and Nanxiaodao under shallow sea water.

——Topography of South Island

The South Island is an eroded and denuded hilly landform with an overall oval shape. It is formed by connecting the island’s main body Fist Ridge and a sharp rock in the southeast-Thumb Peak, via a sea erosion platform.

The terrain is high in the northwest and southeast, and low in the middle.

Figures 8 and 9 are the remote sensing image and geomorphology of Nanxiaodao Island respectively.

According to Figure 7, the nearshore shoals of Nanxiaodao are connected with Beixiaodao, and there are a large number of tidal trenches and reef flats on the northeast coast of Nanxiaodao that are perpendicular to the coast.
