Oberaudorf (dpa) - A 66-year-old man had a fatal accident on Sunday afternoon on a hike to the 1,448-meter-high wild bar in the Bavarian Prealps.

He was traveling with his wife and son, as the police in Rosenheim announced in the evening.

During the descent, the man fell down a steep slope about 80 meters for an unexplained cause, rolled over several times and finally hit a tree.

The emergency doctor who flew over in the rescue helicopter could no longer help.

The man died at the scene of the accident.

The investigations were carried out by police officers from the Alpine Task Force of the Rosenheim Presidium.

The mother and son were looked after by a crisis intervention team.
