Hamburg (dpa / lno) - The almost magical rise to the best second half of the second division team is gradually becoming unbelievable even to the professionals at FC St. Pauli.

"We have been doing a great job since December, nobody could have expected that," said striker Guido Burgstaller after the Kiezkicker earned 2: 1 (1: 0) against promotion candidate Greuther Fürth on Sunday.

The Austrian, described by sports director Andreas Bornemann as the “face of the turnaround”, who has only been available since January after a long injury break, contributed to the three with his tenth goal of the season (50th minute).

Luca Zander initiated the win (10th) early.

«It was a good game for us.

You can see what developments we have taken.

We're very satisfied with that, ”said the 25-year-old right-back.

He had previously scored twice at Erzgebirge Aue (3-1) on April 10, but never before in just under four years at the Kiezclub.

The increase in form of FC St. Pauli was indeed not foreseeable.

As penultimate with only 8 points from 12 games, the St. Paulians went into the winter break.

After 17 games they moved up to 15th place with 16 points.

In the following 14 games, including the Fürth game, 31 points were added, so that the team is now seventh (47).

Burgstaller: "We can be very satisfied with this second half of the season."
