A double from Frenchman Antoine Griezmann led Barcelona to a 2-1 victory at Villarreal on Sunday, to continue chasing Spanish league leaders Atlético Madrid.

Nigerian striker Samuel Chuquisi gave Villarreal the lead in the 27th minute, but Griezmann leveled the score in the next minute before taking advantage of a defensive error to put Barcelona ahead in the 35th minute.

Villarreal pressured Barcelona in the second half, but played with ten men since the 65th minute, after Mano Trejros got a direct red card due to a violent intervention on Lionel Messi.

With this victory, third-placed Barcelona raised its tally to 71 points from 32 games, equal to Real Madrid, who played 33 games, while two points behind Atletico Madrid, who also played 32 games, and faces Athletic Bilbao later on Sunday.
