Würzburg (dpa / lby) - After almost 20 years, a total of around 4000 pages on Jewish communities and synagogues in Bavaria has been completed.

The last two of the five volumes were to be presented on Sunday in the presence of Josef Schuster, President of the Central Council of Jews in Germany, in the Shalom Europa Jewish community center in Würzburg.

The Bavarian synagogue commemorative volume entitled “More than Stones” documents all synagogues that were used in Bavaria in the 1930s.

Since 2002, an interdisciplinary team of scientists had researched the more than 200 former Jewish communities in Bavaria.

Local articles describe the development of Jewish communities in connection with the construction of their synagogues.

The articles also provide insights into the lives of rabbis, women and Jewish teachers.

It will also be shown how the relationship between non-Jews and Jews has developed, said the head of the research project, theology professor Wolfgang Kraus.

The research project was largely financed by the Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Free State of Bavaria.
