Neuburg an der Donau (dpa / lby) - With a spectacular action, the Bundeswehr relocated a discarded fighter jet from the NATO airfield in Zell in Neuburg an der Donau to the nearby Wilhelm Frankl barracks.

The Phantom F4-F had stood on a meadow for ten years and, after the restoration, was now brought to its last parking position at the entrance to the barracks, the Air Force announced on Sunday in Berlin.

A road also had to be closed on Saturday for transport over the approximately 3-kilometer route.

The Bundeswehr followed the action on Twitter.

The tweeted images show the machine being pulled on a road with a towing device.

Their wings protrude over the road on both sides.

At the destination, the aircraft was finally lifted over the fence by a crane and then transported on to the main entrance of the Tactical Air Force Wing 74, where it is to remain.
