Schwerin (dpa / mv) - According to the opinion of the opposition left, the schools in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania are not up to the digital challenges of distance learning even in the third hard lockdown.

After a survey of 103 of the almost 500 schools, the parliamentary group stated that only a little more than ten percent of the pupils had been equipped with a digital device by the schools.

Not even every fifth teacher has a work computer to be able to teach digitally.

Last year, the municipalities, as sponsors of the schools, asked how many socially disadvantaged students could not use their own digital device such as laptop or tablet for distance learning. After the demand was assessed, thousands of devices were ordered. Most of them reached schools in late 2020 and early 2021. The state is in turn responsible for equipping teachers with service laptops.

The parliamentary group leader of the Left, Simone Oldenburg, criticized the fact that there was a lack of computer workstations in many schools after the poll, which the group described as representative.

"That is partly hair-raising."

The technology is already out of date in many places.

A school with 196 students stated that only four computer workstations were available.

In the survey of participating schools, an inadequate Internet or WiFi connection was often complained about.
