Los Angeles (AP) - One day before the Oscar gala, three German directors - Nora Fingscheidt (“Systemsprenger”), Julia von Heinz (“And tomorrow the whole world”) and Anja Marquardt (“She's Lost Control”) - have over reported her experiences in Europe and Hollywood.

In the USA she had a “completely different experience”, said Fingscheidt (38).

After the "Systemsprenger" shoot in Germany for an extremely low budget, she is now working on a film set with hundreds of people.

Born in Braunschweig, she is shooting a Netflix thriller with Oscar winner Sandra Bullock in the lead role.

The still untitled film is expected to appear in autumn.

She was downright shocked that she was trusted so much as a newcomer in Hollywood, says Fingscheidt.

In Germany, she would not have got such a big project so quickly, believes the filmmaker, who currently lives in Los Angeles.

The virtual exchange on Saturday afternoon (local time) replaced the traditional reception for German filmmakers on the day before the Academy Awards in the Californian artist residence Villa Aurora.

Julia von Heinz was connected from Budapest, where the 44-year-old will next shoot the mini-series “Eldorado KaDeWe”.

After her success with the political thriller “And tomorrow the whole world”, Heinz is under contract with the top agency CAA in Hollywood.

You now get a lot of scripts, including for female action films, and speak to producers, says the filmmaker.

When it comes to female roles, Hollywood characters are “ten years ahead”.

“The debate about diversity is much broader in the USA,” says Heinz.

The director was able to win over US actors Mandy Patinkin and Lena Dunham for her next feature film "Iron Box".

Born in Berlin, Anja Marquardt lives in Los Angeles, but is currently completing season 3 of the series "The Girlfriend Experience" in New York.

“It's exciting to see a series start around the world for the first time,” says Marquardt.

The US pay broadcaster Starz brings the series out in May.

She wrote the script and directed.

“Traffic” director Steven Soderbergh brought Marquardt on board.

The Oscar winner works as an executive producer.
