An investigation for "organized murder" was opened after the death of a man shot dead in Vaulx-en-Velin (Rhône), the Lyon prosecutor's office said on Sunday, which evokes a possible settling of scores.

"Unfavorably known to the services", the man was "found shot and wounded in an old disused housing complex" in Vaulx-en-Velin on Friday evening, around 8:30 p.m., said a police source.

He died Saturday from his injuries, said the prosecution suspecting a settling of scores.

A suspect was in police custody Sunday afternoon as part of this investigation "without the direct participation of the respondent is established at this stage," said the prosecution.

The investigation was entrusted to the judicial police of Lyon.
