Qelbinur Sidik was 50 years old when the Chinese state robbed her of her dignity.

She remembers the day in May 2019 when security forces picked her up and drove her to a hospital in Urumqi, the capital of the Chinese province of Xinjiang.

“Don't play with your life,” they threatened, and “think about your family.” Qelbinur Sidik was afraid, more than ever in her life, she says.

She made no resistance.
