Gelsenkirchen (dpa) - Ex-goalkeeper Mathias Schober is the favorite for the post of sports director at Bundesliga relegated FC Schalke 04, according to media reports.
"WAZ" and other media such as "Sport1" reported on the personnel.
The 45-year-old has been working as a professional footballer for the Revierclub since he retired and is currently the sporting director of the youth performance center, the so-called miner's forge.
According to the "WAZ" report, Schalke sports director Peter Knäbel wants to appoint a sports director as his assistant as soon as possible.
Schober is already part of the “Squad Planning Task Force”, which is supposed to support the possibly radical upheaval in the Royal Blues in the summer.
The Schalke relegation was sealed last Tuesday by a 0-1 defeat against Arminia Bielefeld.
