The Palestinian Prisoners and Executives Affairs Authority announced today, Saturday, that Israel has transferred the detained journalist Alaa al-Rimawi to the hospital.

After he continued his hunger strike.

This came in statements made to Anadolu Agency, spokesman for the Palestine Liberation Organization, the media, Majdi Al-Adra.

The spokesman said, "Al-Rimawi was transferred from the Etzion detention center (south of Bethlehem) to the Israeli Shaare Zedek Hospital in occupied Jerusalem, to conduct medical examinations."

He added, "Al-Rimawi (43 years) continues the strike against his arbitrary detention and rejecting the harsh conditions of detention."

Rimawi runs the Jmedia media network. He is a former detainee and has spent more than 10 years in Israeli prisons, part of which is in administrative detention.

Administrative detention is held under an Israeli military order without an indictment, for a period of up to 6 months, which can be extended.

The Israeli authorities arrest about 4,400 Palestinians in their prisons, including 39 women, and about 155 children, while the number of administrative detainees is approximately 350, according to institutions concerned with prisoners' affairs.

The Israeli occupation forces arrested Alaa al-Rimawi last Wednesday from his home in Ramallah, after which the Palestinian journalist announced his hunger strike, refusing to be arrested.

The Syndicate of Journalists condemned the arrest of Rimawi and the continued detention of other journalists, and called on international human rights organizations to intervene to protect journalists.
