Nordhausen (dpa / th) - In the Nordhausen district, the district council election is due today.

Almost 70,000 eligible voters are invited to vote.

In addition to the incumbent Matthias Jendricke (SPD), the CDU local politician Jeanette Goedecke and the candidate of the left, Matthias Marquardt, are standing for election.

In times of the corona pandemic, many eligible voters have already decided to vote by post.

According to the district office, more than 900 election workers will be on duty in the 120 electoral districts, and voluntary rapid corona tests will be organized for them.

In Thuringia, district administrators are elected for a term of six years.

Jendricke was elected to office in 2015 after his predecessor Birgit Keller (left) switched to state politics during the current election period - at that time as infrastructure minister in Bodo Ramelow's cabinet.
