Haiwai.com, April 24. Local time on the 23rd, a glacier collapsed and caused an avalanche in the Niti River Valley in the Chamorli region of Uttarakhand, India, causing 8 deaths, 6 serious injuries, and 38 missing.

Due to local landslides, many rescue roads were blocked.

India’s Asia International News Agency (ANI) reported on the 24th that the locality was carrying out road construction work when the disaster occurred. There were 430 workers at the scene, of which 384 were rescued.

In addition to the eight dead, six others were seriously injured and are receiving treatment.

The Chamorli area police stated that search and rescue operations for 38 missing persons have already begun.

The Indian military involved in the search and rescue said that the search and rescue work on the evening of the 23rd was disrupted by heavy snow.

In the past five days, the affected areas have been experiencing severe rain and snow.

In addition, due to the landslide blocking the road, rescuers still could not reach 4 to 5 locations, and the road cleaning work has been carried out from the evening of the 23rd until now.

In February, there was a glacier rupture disaster in the Chamorli area. The severe flood caused huge damage, killing more than 50 people, and hundreds of people were listed as missing.
