Osnabrück (AP) - Holstein Kiel has reported back with a victory after the quarantine break in the promotion battle of the 2nd Bundesliga.

Coach Ole Werner's team won 3: 1 (3: 0) against penultimate VfL Osnabrück on Saturday and is 49 points behind third Hamburger SV.

However, due to the corona quarantine, the Kielers played two games less.

Osnabrück is threatened with relegation after their 13th home defeat in a row.

The Lower Saxony are with 27 points in 17th place, three points behind the first non-relegation place.

For a long time nothing was seen of the two quarantines in the past six weeks. After just seven minutes, Janni Serra brought the guests into the lead after a pass from Niklas Hauptmann. A strange own goal by heel by VfL professional Bashkim Ajdini (23rd) and a goal by Fin Bartels (45th) after a major defensive error in Osnabrück actually ensured clear conditions.

VfL switched to four positions at the beginning of the second half and came back into the game through Sebastian Kerk.

The offensive player scored after 53 minutes in front of the Kiel goal to make it 1: 3.

The guests clearly noticed the lack of match practice in the course of the game.

The Osnabrück had several times through Marc Heider the chance to hit the next goal.

But the Werner-Elf brought the lead over time and can continue to dream of the Bundesliga.
