The transition is headed for the moment by a military council headed by General

Mahamat Idriss Déby

, son of the late Chadian head of state but strongly contested by the political class and civil society.

The two presidents, Mohamed Bazoum from Niger and Mohamed Ould Ghazouani from Mauritania, were mandated by their colleagues from the G5 Sahel and the French president to listen to political actors on the transition model they want.

Transitional institutions responsible for organizing elections

We took this decision because there is no political mediation initiative coming from Central Africa at the moment, explained the two heads of state to the thirty political leaders of the opposition and the majority confused who were invited to a hotel in the capital.

Among them were

Saleh Kebzabo

,

Succès Masra

Mahamat Ahmat Alhabo

(general secretary of the PLD) or even

Mahamat Zen Bada

, general secretary of Idriss Deby Itno's party.

After the discussions, the mediators noted the need for a dialogue to set up transitional institutions that will be responsible for drafting a new constitution and organizing elections.

The conclusions of the meeting will be transmitted to the Transitional Military Council to which the Heads of State of the G5-Sahel and France have requested an inclusive transition that takes into account all components of Chadian society.

France, guarantor of the transition process

"What emerges from the consultations of the president (Macron) with his counterparts is the need to move very quickly in an inclusive transition which makes room for political forces", explained one of his advisers to the French president, adding " everyone is well aware that the civilian aspect of the transition will have to have significant powers and that a satisfactory balance will have to be struck between the Transitional Military Council and the civilian system that will be put in place ”.

"It is the only way today, concludes this same source, because a purely military process will not arrive there".

The African Union and the G5-Sahel will be at the forefront of this issue.

France will play a guarantor role.
