Mainz / Berlin (dpa / lrs) - The State Music Council of Rhineland-Palatinate urges politics to reopen the music business.

“The music must be heard again as soon as possible,” said managing director Etienne Emard on Friday in Mainz.

The corona pandemic has been forcing music associations and choirs to fall silent for more than a year.

Emard referred to a new step-by-step plan by the German Music Council to revive the music business.

This is based on findings from current studies, for example on aerosol emissions and the importance of ventilation systems, masks and tests, as the German Music Council announced on Friday in Berlin. It also includes a catalog of measures to protect musicians. The concept drawn up together with the Conference of Regional Music Councils will be supplemented by practical recommendations for action for musical events.

"The multi-stage opening scenario of the federal and state governments, which is based on the development of the pandemic, takes into account the practice of sports, but not singing and making music," criticized the President of the German Music Council, Martin Maria Krüger.

In Germany, almost 15 million people sing and make music.

According to the State Music Council, there are more than half a million citizens in Rhineland-Palatinate - for example, many young music students as well as choir members and members of music associations, but also professionals.
