Dresden (dpa / sn) - The Left and the Greens in Saxony are setting their personal course for the federal election today.

The state list is then elected at meetings in Dresden and Leipzig.

The left come together in the Messe Dresden, the Greens in the congress hall at the zoo in Leipzig.

For the left, the former federal chairman Katja Kipping from Dresden wants to run for first place, for the Greens it is the Leipzig doctor Paula Piechotta.

The CDU and AfD had already drawn up their lists.

At the Saxony CDU, Marco Wanderwitz, the federal government's Eastern Commissioner, is ranked 1. At the Saxon AfD, federal chairman Tino Chrupalla is the top candidate.

The left had announced in advance that they wanted to score points in the election campaign with social issues.

Those who already have very little income should not pay the costs of the crisis, said party leader Stefan Hartmann.

In the 2017 federal election, the Saxon left had 16.1 percent of the second vote and were able to move into the Bundestag with six members.

Five of them are now running again.

Against the background of current polls, the Greens are aiming for a double-digit result and would more than double their result from last time.

In 2017 they came to 4.6 percent in the Free State and thus won two mandates.
