2,021 good actions for a 2021 marked by the sustainable reconstruction of our society. That is the plan with which P&G, manufacturer of well-known consumer brands such as Ariel, Dodot or Fairy, wants to reaffirm its commitment to society after a 2020 marked by the pandemic, the economic crisis and the social emergency. This was announced at the end of last year when it launched Lead with love, a global program with which the company will develop 2,021 projects, with a focus on its pillars of impact on the community, environmental sustainability and equality and inclusion.

In 2020, during the hardest months of the Covid-19 crisis, P&G and its brands contributed more than 1.1 million products in Spain, as well as 1.2 million masks and 15,000 liters of hydroalcoholic liquid to alleviate the effects of the coronavirus. In 2021, the leaders and employees of P&G Spain want to accelerate these efforts to carry out 21 projects for the community, equality and the planet, a commitment that they will carry out hand in hand with their partners and consumers.

Now, P&G has presented Lead with love in Spain and has announced that 21 of those 2,021 actions will be projects carried out in our country. The different initiatives will have the objective of generating a positive impact on the communities in which P&G is present, and will be aimed at alleviating situations of vulnerability and social inequality of different groups and preserving natural and environmental resources to join efforts in the fight against climate change. With the 21 projects that P&G will carry out in Spain, the company estimates that it will generate a positive impact on the lives of 360,000 people, 50% more than the previous year.

According to Vanessa Prats, executive vice president and general manager of P&G in Spain and Portugal, "Lead with love demonstrates P & G's confidence that we can and must rebuild our society after a year as complex as the one we have experienced. To do this, we have designed a plan of action led by each and every one of our employees that integrates 21 projects with which, together with our partners, we seek to generate a real and lasting positive impact that reaches the whole of Spanish citizenship ".

Sponsor an Olive Tree: An oxygen balloon for the local community

P&G has begun to reveal some of these efforts that it will carry out in Spain during 2021 within the framework of Lead with love. One of the outstanding initiatives that the company has announced is its collaboration with the "Sponsor an Olivo" project, with which P&G Spain will offset 1,600 tons of CO2 with the regeneration of 3,476 centenary olive trees in Oliete, Teruel. The project consists of recovering olive groves that, with the depopulation that the region has suffered for years, was in a situation of abandonment, causing a significant impact on local ecosystems.

It is an environmental initiative, but it has implications for another of the greatest challenges Spain faces: the abandonment of rural areas and the loss of economic activity and wealth for the communities that inhabit them, a phenomenon that threatens thousands of municipalities like Oliete.

In this way, P & G's contribution to "Apadrina un Olivo" will contribute to a sustainable economic model in the area, which will generate employment, help repopulation, protect biodiversity, reduce the level of CO2 in the atmosphere and promote tourism. local.

Water, the most precious natural resource for life

The advances in sustainability of P&G Spain are also specified in the management and use of water in its production centers, especially in areas of high water stress such as the Segura basin. Precisely, the P&G plant in Jijona has managed to reduce its absolute water consumption by 42% compared to 2010, which is equivalent to 6.4 million liters of water. The culture of water efficiency in P&G plants continues to be a priority for the company, as part of its Ambition 2030 goals, so it will continue to make efforts to preserve water as a central resource for the lives of people and nature.

Working towards this goal, the P&G plant in Alicante has already completed the water risk assessment process and is implementing a specific action plan to manage it responsibly.

After being selected as one of the 24 P&G plants in the world to develop this water resources management project, the production center has followed steps 1 and 2 of standard 2.0 of the Alliance for Sustainable Water Management ( AWS), which provides a global understanding framework on the impact on water consumption.

In addition, the International Water Stewardship Standard 2.0 enables collaborative and transparent work on sustainable water management in the context of a river basin.

Involving employees in the challenges of tomorrow

P & G's commitment to communities and the planet does not end there. The company has also announced that there will be an initiative number 22 for next year with which it will also transfer all the prominence to its employees, so that the P&G workers themselves in Spain will be the ones who propose candidates to choose the new project. From there, the proposals will be evaluated by a jury of experts who will select the winning candidacy based on its potential for citizen contribution in one of the three areas of its corporate citizenship program (environment, equality and inclusion and social impact). .

For more than 50 years, P&G Spain has supported its consumers and their communities to accompany them in their small or large daily challenges, through its products, to take care of themselves, their homes and their families, but also through their actions for society and the environment.

Now, hand in hand with its employees and collaborators, P&G Spain focuses on extracting the lessons from its innovation model and incorporating all its scope, capacity and vision into common objectives shared with its partners to generate a positive impact.
