You may feel satisfied after completing the household cleaning task, which is not much fun but necessary and useful for sure, but there is a right and wrong way to clean.

Find out if you are making any of these mistakes that could actually ruin your home's cleanliness, making it dirtier.

Author Caroline Stanko, in a report published by Readersdigest in its Australian edition, compiled mistakes for you and suggested solutions.

Using the same cleaning cloth around the house can transfer dirt to it (Getty Images)

First mistake: Using the same rag around the house

When you use the same rag on multiple places in the house, it retains the dirt from the previous surface and distributes it to any surface it touches next.

This means that bathroom germs stick to kitchen counters and the coffee table in the living room, and anywhere else you use this rag, which makes cleaning your kitchen completely wrong.

The solution:

Use a fresh pack of tissue paper for each surface you clean, or use a microfiber cleaning cloth specifically for each area of your home.

Microfiber cleaning cloths can be placed in the washing machine or hand wash thoroughly after each use to remove dirt.

A feather duster spreads dust around the surface or pushes it to fall to the ground instead of removing it (Getty Images)

The second mistake: using a feather duster

No matter how many ads for these dusters say the feathers "trap and seal the dust," this is not true.

Feather duster is notorious for spreading dust around the surface or pushing it to fall to the ground, rather than removing it.

The solution:

Use a microfiber cleaning cloth or disposable paper towels, along with a suitable cleaning solution, depending on the surface you are removing dust from.

Failure to clean the vacuum cleaner filter will spread dirt back into the air and onto the carpet through the ventilation shaft (Getty Images)

The third mistake: not cleaning the vacuum cleaner

When the filter (filter) of the vacuum cleaner is not changed or cleaned for a period of time, the problem is not only the inability of the vacuum cleaner to capture the largest amount of dirt and dust due to the low suction capacity, but also the dirt scattered back into the air and on the carpet from the ventilation hole .

Solution:

Change or empty vacuum cleaner bags or filter cans as soon as they're full.

Wipe the vacuum cleaner accessories, hose and ventilation slot with a damp microfiber cleaning cloth or a damp paper towel, making sure that the vacuum is unplugged first.

Returning the toilet brush to its holder immediately after use causes germs to multiply and increase their number (Getty Images)

Fourth mistake: promptly returning the toilet brush to its holder

If you put the toilet brush back into its holder immediately after use, the moisture and germs from the toilet will get trapped in the container and the brush, as they multiply and increase in number.

These germs are then stuck back into the toilet the next time you use the toothbrush.

Solution:

After using the toilet brush, allow it to dry completely before returning it to its holder.

The kitchen sink is a place where germs and bacteria grow quickly so it should always be cleaned and dried (Getty Images)

Fifth mistake: not drying the kitchen sink

As a humid environment, ponds are a place where germs and bacteria grow quickly, as food particles tend to stick to them.

This problem is exacerbated when food or standing water is left in the sump, drain, or garbage disposal machine.

Solution:

Wipe and dry the sink after each use.

The room must be cleaned from top to bottom, cabinets, windows, and then the floor (communication sites).

6th mistake: cleaning from the bottom up

When you sweep, mop, or vacuum the floor before cleaning the furniture, dust and crumbs fall off the tables and shelves, requiring you to re-clean the floor.

The solution

: clean the room from top to bottom.

Start with windows, then move to tables, chairs, and sofas, then side tables and coffee tables, and finally the floor.

Spraying detergent directly on furniture or glass leads to build-up of the solution, which leaves a greasy texture on surfaces and windows (communication sites).

The seventh mistake: spraying detergent directly on the surfaces

Spraying cleaner directly on furniture, countertops, or glass can build up the solution, leaving a greasy feel on surfaces, furniture, and windows.

This may also cause dirt and dust to stick more strongly.

Solution:

Spray the cleaning solution on a microfiber cleaning cloth or disposable tissue, then wipe the surfaces.

Skin cells and dust mites from clothes remain in the washing machine drum causing them to become smelly (Getty Images)

The eighth mistake: not cleaning the washing machine

Skin cells, dust mites, and stains from clothes can remain in the washer drum as well as on the lid or door and detergent dispenser.

This causes the clothes to be washed in the dirty water, and eventually they will smell bad.

Solution:

For a top-loading washer, start it by choosing the longest and hottest wash setting.

When the drum is almost full with water, pour one liter of vinegar and a cup of baking soda, leave the lid open, and let the mixture settle while the washing machine is in a pause position for at least an hour.

Meanwhile, clean the cover and any other visible nooks and crannies.

Close the cap, allowing the wash cycle to start.

Repeat the cleaning stage with vinegar and baking soda if necessary, then wipe the inside of the washer and leave the lid open until the washer is completely dry.

For a front-loading washer, pour a solution of a quarter cup of baking soda and water into the detergent bin, and pour two cups of vinegar into the drum.

Set your washing machine to the highest temperature and let it do its job.

After the cycle is over, wipe down the drum, door, detergent bin and exterior.

Remember to leave the door open between wash cycles for optimum ventilation.

Do not put a cutting board in the dishwasher, wood will spoil and plastic may dissolve in hot water (Getty Images)

Mistake 9: Washing the cutting board with dishwashing liquid

While dishwashing liquid and hot water remove visible food debris from the cutting board, the chopping effects on the wooden and plastic panels trap microscopic food particles, as bacteria multiply that are transferred to any food that comes into contact with the cutting board.

Solution:

Do not put a chopping board in the dishwasher.

The wooden cutting board can crack and spoil, while the plastic cutting board can dissolve in hot water and the steam environment of the dishwasher.

Instead, soak the cutting boards in hydrogen peroxide or bleach solution, then rinse and dry them completely.
