Wolfsburg / Munich (dpa) - VW works council chairman and supervisory board member Bernd Osterloh is leaving the corporate headquarters and will be the director of human resources at the commercial vehicle subsidiary Traton.

The move should take place at short notice on May 1st, it said on Friday in Wolfsburg.

There was a corresponding offer, which the 64-year-old now wants to accept “in good time” before the preparation of the next elections for the workforce representatives in the supreme control body and in the works council of the car manufacturer.

These are both due in 2022 - therefore a “generation change” is now being initiated.

Osterloh's successor is to be the previous deputy chief of the group and general works council, Daniela Cavallo (46).

This also applies to the supervisory board function: "The steps necessary for your appointment via the registry court have already been initiated."

The influential IG Metaller Osterloh has not only headed the employee representation since 2005, he is also a member of the innermost circle of power of the Volkswagen inspectors.

The important position in the Presidium of the Supervisory Board must therefore now be reassigned.

Traton is headquartered in Munich and is responsible for heavy commercial vehicles in the largest European car company with brands such as MAN and Scania.

Osterloh had already received offers to switch to the management side.

At the end of 2015, he could have become the VW Board Member for Human Resources, but turned it down at the time.
