Falkenstein (dpa / sa) - After a hammer attack on a 53-year-old man in Falkenstein (Harz district), an arrest warrant has been issued against the alleged perpetrator.

The 21-year-old was taken to prison on suspicion of attempted murder and dangerous bodily harm, the police said on Friday.

He is accused of knocking down the 53-year-old with a hammer on Thursday in a workshop in the Falkensteiner district of Ermsleben.

The victim was taken to hospital with injuries to the head, forearms and back.

In connection with the crime, the police are also investigating a 44-year-old who is said to have driven the attacker to the scene.

The man had been arrested and, after consulting the responsible public prosecutor, was released.

The police did not provide any information about possible motives for the attack.

These, as well as the exact circumstances of the act, are the subject of the investigation.
