Hanover (dpa / lni) - With a lighting campaign, the German Hotel and Restaurant Association in Hanover is calling for perspectives for restaurants and hotels in the corona pandemic.

The week-long campaign kicked off on Thursday evening with the “Four Seasons” restaurant, which has been closed since November 2020 - illuminated in green, with the words “Encounters today, silence tomorrow”.

The association announced that the aim was to point out the "historical crisis" in the catering and hotel industry and to demand perspectives.

Further buildings are to be illuminated across the city and each evening under a different motto.

The hotel occupancy figures for 2020 would have “exceeded our worst fears”, said Kirsten Jordan, Dehoga managing director in the Hanover region.

With 2.1 million overnight stays, the numbers have fallen by more than 50 percent compared to the previous year - in 2019, 4.3 million people still stayed overnight in Hanover and the surrounding area.

"The industry is in ruins," said Cord Kelle, chairman of the hotel industry.

According to Dehoga, the aim of the campaign is also to give courage for the time with and after the pandemic.

According to the information, the lighting of the buildings should always start around 9:30 p.m. and last around 45 minutes.
