Hamburg (dpa / lno) - The newly founded European League of Football (ELF) wants to play the final of its premiere season on September 26th in Düsseldorf.

The ELF announced on Friday.

“The city and this stadium stand for events steeped in history,” said league managing director Zeljko Karajica about the event in the home of the second division football team Fortuna Düsseldorf.

The stadium was the venue for the Düsseldorf Rhein Fire in the NFL Europe from 2005 to 2007.

«I can hardly wait to see the bowl of the European League of Football in Düsseldorf.

And who knows, maybe Rhein Fire will return to the big stage at some point, ”said EFL commissioner Patrick Esume.

The ELF is scheduled to start its first season on June 19 with eight teams.

There are six teams from Germany and one team each from Spain and Poland.
