Erfurt (dpa / th) - Thuringia's tax authorities have deferred tax payments on a large scale for companies and self-employed who suffered heavily from the corona pandemic in 2020.

In almost 14,000 cases, tax payments with a total volume of more than 136 million euros were temporarily suspended, as the Ministry of Finance announced in Erfurt on Friday.

In addition, the tax officials refrained from enforcement measures in around 1700 cases.

A large number of requests for reductions in income and corporate tax prepayments had also been processed and approved.

Advance payments for sales tax could also be reduced or reimbursed.

Almost 4,000 applications were approved for this alone, costing around 40 million euros.

This means that a large number of applications have been processed with priority by the tax offices.

"The tasks assigned by law to the tax offices could be completed in a short time, thus providing companies with fast and unbureaucratic liquidity," explained Finance Minister Heike Taubert (SPD).

Companies affected by the corona pandemic will continue to be supported with tax assistance.
