Ingolstadt / Stuttgart (dpa) - The car manufacturers Audi and Daimler are drawing further conclusions from the lack of important electronic components.

Audi is restricting production at the Neckarsulm plant in the coming week.

Daimler has announced that in the near future it may be sending more employees than previously known into short-time work.

The chip giant Intel sees no end to the global semiconductor bottlenecks, as the company announced.

The "unprecedented demand" strain the supply chains in the industry, said the new Intel boss Pat Gelsinger.

There is a lack of production capacities, material for circuit boards and components.

At Audi, the production lines for the A6 and A7 models will therefore be idle from April 26th to 30th.

The "Augsburger Allgemeine" had previously reported on it.

“The employees affected by the lost work time will go on short-time work for this period,” said Audi.

Audi did not mention which parts of which suppliers are in short supply. According to the company, however, it is possible that the lack of parts will affect production at the main plant in Ingolstadt. As a precaution, Audi applied for short-time work for both German plants in May. However, that does not mean that there will definitely be short-time working. In the semiconductor sector, the supply of parts is still critical, according to an intranet circular from management to employees.

When presenting the figures for the first quarter, Daimler also announced that in the near future it might be sending more employees than previously known into short-time work because important electronic components were missing.

In the coming weeks there could be production stops and short-time work due to the chip crisis “here and there”, said CFO Harald Wilhelm.

He left open which locations beyond the previously known ones could be affected.

Wilhelm gave no details about periods of time either.

Wilhelm said the production interruptions could affect several product classes - possibly also high-priced car models such as the S-Class, which is being built in Sindelfingen.

Daimler had previously announced that it would initially put thousands of employees on short-time work in the Mercedes plants in Rastatt and Bremen by the end of next week.

The global problems with the replenishment of electronic chips have been causing other car companies, in some cases enormous problems, for weeks.
