Offenbach (dpa / lhe) - companies, hospitals, schools - in the year of the Corona crisis, the funding volume of the WIBank increased significantly.
In 2020, new business increased by almost 60 percent year-on-year to a good 3.2 billion euros, as the State of Hesse's funding institute reported on Thursday.
The total funding volume increased from 22.9 billion euros to 23.6 billion euros.
More than a billion of the new funds were invested in clinics - among other things because additional intensive care treatment options had to be set up due to the pandemic. Second largest block: funds for companies and farms totaling a good 852 million euros. 161.5 million euros flowed into the school sector, for example to promote digital learning opportunities.
"Since the beginning of the corona pandemic, the federal and state governments have paid out a good two billion euros to Hessian companies, from the first emergency aid in March 2020 to bridging aid III," said Hesse's Minister of Economic Affairs, Tarek Al-Wazir (Greens).
In addition, with the help of the Economic and Infrastructure Bank (WIBank), the country has launched programs such as so-called microliquidity with loans for small businesses and self-employed people "at record speed".

"Our primary concern was to provide the affected Hessian companies with quick support from the start of the crisis," explained Michael Reckhard, member of the WIBank management.
"The high demand has shown how great the needs of entrepreneurs was and still is."
