Berlin (dpa / bb) - Alba Berlin has received a surprising home defeat in the basketball league.

On Thursday evening, in front of empty stands in the arena at Ostbahnhof, the Berliners lost to the basketball Löwen Braunschweig after a weak second half with 82:87 (36:33).

Alba lost two of the last three league games, but remains second in the table.

The best thrower from Berlin was Luke Sikma with 19 points.

Because the guests arrived late, the game only started a quarter of an hour later.

It developed a very distracted and physical game.

Alba was initially very good defensively, so that Braunschweig only scored its first points after almost five and a half minutes - Alba was already leading 9-0.

But the Berliners also had offensively problems to find their rhythm.

At the beginning of the second quarter, Alba took a double-digit lead for the first time (23:13), but the guests were now more successful against the Berlin cover.

They were often too easy to get through, especially under the basket.

They also got more rebounds.

And Alba still struggled offensively.

After changing sides, the Berliners looked increasingly tired and were often always one step too late.

Braunschweig took advantage of this and took the lead with 51:49 for the first time just two and a half minutes before the end.

Alba barely succeeded in doing anything, and the guests moved up to twelve points (50:62).

The Berlin team came up to 82:83 six seconds before the end - but that was all they could do.
