Reutlingen (AP) - The police have caught a suspected gang of criminals who are said to have evaded taxes in the millions.

With a deployment of more than 200 officials, 24 buildings in six districts in Baden-Württemberg as well as in Bavaria, Hesse, Lower Saxony and Berlin were searched on Wednesday, as the Reutlingen police headquarters and the Stuttgart public prosecutor announced.

Three of the 18 suspects were arrested on Wednesday.

Arrest warrants have already been issued against them.

The accused are said to have stolen or embezzled numerous pallets and lattice boxes.

They are said to have sold these goods for a profit with companies they founded.

The suspects are said to have evaded sales tax on a large scale.

The police put the turnover of the alleged bogus companies at more than ten million euros.

The unpaid taxes therefore amount to more than 1.5 million euros.

Extensive evidence is now being evaluated for the investigations into commercial and gang stealing as well as tax evasion, it said.
