• 2018 "This generation has to be smart enough to try to end machismo"

Loja (Granada), 1981. Together with Alfredo Méndez and Alejandro Núñez, Noni López forms

Lori Meyers

, the Spanish group of reference in the long-awaited activity of having fun at festivals.

Waiting for that to come back, they present 'Punk', a preview of their next album.

The song is called 'Punk', but it's quite 'pop'. Is it a vacillate?

When I do a project in ProTools to start recording, as we have done this time at home, I title it with something that will remind me, because imagine the amount of projects that accumulate. As the song at the beginning was more pipe, I put that to it, 'Punk'. I also did it for our beginnings: Lori Meyers comes from NOFX, we also listened separately to Nirvana, Bad Religion, Californian punk ... And a bit because of that idea that we had, that we started recording at 10 in the morning and we left it At six o'clock in the afternoon, we had already drunk beer and nothing better was going to turn out.

The track is a preview of his next album, produced by James Bagshaw of Temples.

When he made the Anni [B Sweet, Noni partner] record, he soon came to visit us. He loved Granada and wanted to find a house here, the classic one of the English. He repeats that he doesn't want to be a producer, but he ended up doing it. For us, great, because producing ourselves is a very heavy 'backpack' and we like to have someone younger, with a lot of energy, with desire, who likes our songs and, apart from that, is a foreigner.

In the song it says that "any past tense is better".

It's also a self-criticism of us: it's cool to laugh at yourself. In addition, at this time social networks and image are given a lot of importance, it has been inflated a lot. There are even those who already need to fill in their ego if they do not give them a 'like' one day, because that makes them feel bad ... I am lucky that the music group -which has given me many other things, such as Seeing all the places I've seen and all of that - has filled my ego quota. I took off social media in 2015-2016 and have not returned. Because thanks to music I feel safe.

It's like a dodgy and badly 'cut' heroine, the thing about social networks, right?

The best 'hero' there is is love. The love of what you do, the love of what you give to people ... It is the best ingredient from cooking to anything.

The 'covid' hiatus has made a lot of music people feel bad, especially those who are just starting out.

It is a very fast life. With things that are also good, like we can communicate. Thanks to that, many people have survived the pandemic, because we have seen our family. But then there may be young people, surely things that are not clear yet, and are living so fast that they do not know that they still have many years left.

"Lori Meyers are not going at all." What do you think of the phrase?

We have managed to make our 'monster' the identity of Alejandro, Alfredo and myself. And then, when we get together with the musicians, we are a team, a pineapple and with the technicians, I don't even tell you: a family. But it's true. I don't get wet in politics. I do not want. Not on topics like religion or other stories. Because I really respect the intelligence of my fans a lot. I respect the criteria of each one of choosing their religion, their political position, everything they want to choose ... And then Noni, rather, Antonio, also has his personal opinion of things. But I don't think the fans are interested in what Antonio thinks. Not even my dog is interested, who usually leaves the room when I yell at the TV [laughs].

What does music bring to you?

In Spain, dedicating yourself to music is a matter of absolute passion, it is something very particular. Within that, when I have come to connect with the public, there is a strange move. But I've only seen love. And the temporal aspect is interesting: with music you get moments in which time does not pass ... but it always remains with whom you lived those sensations, with whom you dumped, with whom you played that song.

Sidonie has a song that says: "Now Lori Meyers play, I feel like dancing." Many people are waiting for the festivals to return to see them perform.

It is the most beautiful thing you can say to me: that they consider us a group that has no loss that you are going to have a good time. That happens with few. Think about it. There are groups that you don't know if they're going to sound good, or that guy you don't know if he's going to be pissed off because we already know he has an attitude ... Not with Lori Meyers. We give 120 percent. And it's incredible that they tell us that: "I'm going to have a good time with you." When I've seen people come out of a Low, a Sonorama, sweating, man, that's not just that they like your fucking music anymore. That is, they have started to exercise and everything. I don't think any musician has greater satisfaction than that.

Please tell us about your experience during the pandemic.

I did nothing. What I have been able to do is finish the album. And I have recovered a bit of reading, because Anni made me very envious, the bitch 'ate' books everywhere.

How are we going to end when this is all over?

Psychiatrists are going to have jobs for a long time. We all suffer from pandemic fatigue, we have all been on the edge. For example: I am quite a hermit, I live in a town, I did not go out much ... But it is true that the obligation makes you want the opposite: as soon as they tell you, it is not no, you cannot go out.

Will we overcome this negativity?

The Earth gave us nature, it gave us animals, then it gave us people and in those people, people like Lorca.

There is something that has to be right there.

There have been moments when we have been incredible and we have to try to return to them.

I believe that we are going to recover it as a society.
