Weimar (dpa / th) - There will be no regular performances at the German National Theater (DNT) and the Staatskapelle Weimar in May either.

The reason is the current situation in the corona crisis and the regulations to be expected, the DNT announced on Thursday.

Exceptions for the planned premieres of Georges Bizet's “Carmen” on May 8th and Ulrich Plenzdorf's “Legende von Paul und Paula” on May 28th would be conceivable, if the infection situation and rules then allow: It will be checked whether the two performances are Model tests for opening perspectives for culture in the pandemic could be performed with a limited number of viewers, it said. The Weimar speeches on current topics are broadcast live on the Internet without an audience. Access is via an online ticket. The theater has so far been sticking to the open-air performances planned for the summer, such as the Shakespeare comedy "As You Like It".

Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier signed a new infection protection law on Thursday, with which a nationwide Corona emergency brake is to be initiated.

The decisive factor is how many infections are reported in a district or a city per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days.

If the value exceeds the threshold of 100 on three consecutive days, stricter measures should apply.

Then, for example, theaters, operas, concert halls, music clubs, cinemas, museums, exhibitions and memorials should not be allowed to open in the regions, and corresponding events are also prohibited.

This should apply until the seven-day incidence is again below 100 for several days.

The regulations are limited to June 30th at the latest.

If the emergency brake comes into force, cultural institutions in Thuringia are unlikely to open at all.

Theaters, cinemas and museums are currently closed to visitors to contain the pandemic.

For months, Thuringia has had the highest seven-day incidence nationwide.

According to the State Chancellery, on Thursday there was no city or district in the Free State with a seven-day incidence below 100.
