Haltern (dpa / lnw) - During the chase of a suspicious car in Haltern, a police officer shot at the getaway car on Wednesday evening that had previously driven towards him.

A tire was hit, nobody was injured.

Only later could the two car occupants be caught.

There is a 27-year-old and a 39-year-old without a permanent address.

They found drugs and a knife, the Recklinghausen district police reported on Thursday.

At first nothing was known about the background of the escape.

According to the information from the police and public prosecutor's office in Essen, officials from the motorway police tried to check the car in the evening.

However, the driver disregarded the stop signs and fled via the A43 in the direction of Haltern.

In the Sythen district the car drove to a dead end.

When officers approached on foot, the car suddenly drove towards them, it was said.

That was when the shot came about.

The police then briefly lost sight of the car.

With the help of other forces from Recklinghausen and Coesfeld and a police helicopter, the man and the woman were later discovered in Haltern and arrested.
