Heidenheim (dpa) - VfL Bochum has made another big step towards possible promotion to the Bundesliga.
The second division leader won on Wednesday with goals from Robert Tesche (33rd minute) and Herbert Bockhorn (82nd) 2-0 (1-0) at 1. FC Heidenheim.
In the table, the Revierclub is already ten points ahead of Hamburger SV in relegation rank three with four remaining games.
However, the Hanseatic League has played two games less so far.
For the Heidenheimers, after three wins in a row, it was again a setback in the promotion race.
VfL suffered an early setback and goalkeeper Manuel Riemann was replaced after a few minutes due to an unintentional kick by Heidenheim striker Tim Kleindienst on suspicion of a broken metacarpal.
Bochum's first chance after a good half an hour was right away.
After a free kick by Robert Zulj, Tesche hit the head without being pushed.
Christian Kühlwetter had the best opportunity for the hosts in the first round, who shot just past the left from 20 meters (27th).
Kleindienst could have equalized in the second half, but failed free-standing due to Bochum's substitute keeper Patrick Drewes (75th).
On the other hand, after a counterattack, Bockhorn made everything clear.
