Berlin (dpa / bb) - After the vote of the CDU federal executive board for Armin Laschet as the Union's candidate for chancellor, a number of party members resigned in Berlin.

So far, a number of such resignations have become known, it was said on Thursday from the CDU regional association.

Numbers were not given because there is still no overview.

Because party members could notify their resignation to the local, district, state or federal association.

The CDU state chairman Kai Wegner had pleaded for CSU leader Markus Söder in the union power struggle for the candidacy for chancellor and justified this with the mood in the Berlin party committees.

After the decision in favor of the CDU chairman and NRW Prime Minister Laschet on Tuesday night, the mood at the Berlin CDU base was not particularly good, it was now said.

On September 26th, the election for the Berlin House of Representatives will take place in addition to the Bundestag election.

The CDU has around 13,000 members in Berlin.
