Wiesbaden (dpa) - The left co-chairman Janine Wissler does not expect any effects on possible future government alliances because of the personnel decision in the Green top candidacy for the federal election.

Annalena Baerbock's nomination as a green candidate for chancellor has made red-red-green or green-red-red “not more likely or less likely,” she said in Wiesbaden on Wednesday.

There are no political differences between Baerbock and the Greens co-chairman Robert Habeck that “could indicate anything,” said Wissler.

Basically, the Left Party is said to want to lead an independent election campaign.

If there should be an arithmetical majority after the federal election - then all three parties are responsible to talk to each other about whether this majority can be used.

But governing is not an end in itself, "we want a change in policy," emphasized Wissler.

The Left Party demands, among other things, social justice, affordable housing and a consistent peace policy.

The left wants to decide on its top candidate for the federal election at the beginning of May.
