This was announced at a press conference by the head of the Department of Justice - US Attorney General Merrick Garland, reports The Washington Post.

The DOJ intends to determine "whether the Minneapolis Police Department tolerates trends or practices of unconstitutional or illegal law enforcement behavior."

Garland also said that another federal investigation into the cause of Floyd's death is ongoing.

Earlier, the court found a former police officer from Minneapolis Derek Chauvin guilty of the murder of African American George Floyd.

He faces up to 40 years in prison.
