Berlin / Neckarbischofsheim (dpa) - Loss of income for the parents, no desire for further online lessons for the children - the tutoring schools are in a difficult position in the Corona crisis. Three percent of the 4,000 tutoring schools before the Corona crisis have already given up , says Cornelia Sussieck, chairwoman of the Federal Association of Tutoring and Afternoon Schools (VNN / Solingen). The tutoring schools were ignored by politics in the Corona crisis. "The school lesson on the back burner in the pandemic leaves many students knowledge gaps - but we as professionals in dealing with deficits are not included by politics," complains the head of the association.

In their estimation, around half of the students at all grades need help to catch up on the subjects that were missed during school closings.

"The children and adolescents are in a bubble right now - when they return to regular operations there will be a rude awakening for many."

Instead of organizing additional lessons through the private tutoring schools, so Sussieck, the focus of education politicians is on student teachers, retirees and adult education centers.

"We don't need such a parallel system - our schools are already monitored by school authorities and regional councils."

The VNN is assuming a billion turnover per year, with 360 million euros accounted for by institutional tutoring and 640 million euros for the black market.

Since the beginning of the Corona crisis, the VNN has written 120 letters to federal and state education politicians in order to be able to discuss funding measures - with a weak response, as Sussieck reports.

The only thing that is clear is that one billion euros will be spent on tutoring.

The Federal Ministry of Education emphasizes that there is agreement with the federal states that, as those responsible for school education, they will implement the aid in the existing structures.

"It is therefore to be welcomed if the professional tutoring institutions primarily talk to the federal states about concepts of emergency aid," said Anja Karliczek (CDU).
