Jokkmokk's social committee has previously decided that the retirement home Pionären in Porjus will be closed down as part of the multi-million savings required for a balanced economy.

But the municipal board voted down the proposal and paused the closure pending an investigation into developments in Porjus in the near future.

"Important for the population"

The decision was made with the votes 5-4 after the Social Democrat Marina Eriksson from Porjus voted with the opposition.

And now the social welfare committee has decided that the council will make the final decision on the issue in June and that means that there is a majority today that the nursing home will be saved.

- The matter will go on to the City Council because the issue is of that caliber.

Hopefully, the Pioneer will be saved from closure because it is so important for the population that it remains, says Kerstin Hellgren Tobiasson (S), chairman of the social committee.

"The party must endure"

And the Social Democrat Marina Eriksson stands up.

She will vote to push the Pioneer forward and break the party line once again.

- Yes, I will.

I think there are other coordinations you can also look at.

To get an attractive place, you can not close schools, elderly care and municipal services in the place.

Because then we get no one who moves here.

Marina Eriksson believes that the Social Democrats are a large party with many different opinions.

- But as long as you are open and honest at the group meetings before the meetings about where you stand, the party must endure it, she says.
