Ingolstadt (dpa / lby) - The Bavarian State Horticultural Show in Ingolstadt is to be opened to the first visitors this weekend, despite a high seven-day incidence.

Mayor Christian Scharpf (SPD) declared on Wednesday at the official opening of the garden show that the government of Upper Bavaria had issued a special permit at short notice.

But it is not yet a large-scale opening, said the town hall chief.

Visitors to the flower show must first register on the website https://ingolstadt2020.de.

Exact details about the planned opening were not initially explained there.

Originally it was said that the garden show, like a botanical garden, should only be opened when the seven-day incidence in Ingolstadt is below 100 for several days.

The city is far from that.

On Wednesday, the number of infected people per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days, according to the Robert Koch Institute for Ingolstadt, was 195.

The Ingolstadt show was canceled in 2020 due to the pandemic and postponed by a year.

For ten years the city had worked to build a new 23 hectare green area on a suburb in the northwest of the city.
