Heilbronn (dpa / lsw) - Out of raging jealousy, a man in Heilbronn seriously injured his wife with 21 stab wounds and has now been convicted: The regional court imposed a prison sentence of six years and six months on Wednesday for, among other things, dangerous bodily harm and attempted manslaughter .

According to the verdict, the defendant caught his wife, who was separated from him, having sex with one of his best friends and then freaked out. The 35-year-old grabbed a kitchen knife with a twelve centimeter long blade and wanted to stab the woman's lover. But this threw itself in between. So the man, only wearing a towel, was able to flee unharmed.

In order to get into the once shared apartment, the perpetrator said he had climbed up a seven-meter-high rain pipe and entered the kitchen over the roof through a half-open window.

According to the court, the 33-year-old woman only survived the knife attack because the drunken attacker stopped at some point and got help from the neighbor.

"It was between life and death," said judge Roland Kleinschroth.

The fact that the defendant did not abandon the woman and that he made a full confession to the police had mitigated the sentence.

The Bulgarian has to pay the woman who was rescued by an emergency operation a compensation of 35,000 euros.

The court also ordered rehab against his alcohol addiction.

The man accepted the judgment that Kleinschroth had found to be legally binding.
