Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - Weaker students should be able to close corona-related knowledge gaps again in special support courses during the summer holidays.

These learning bridges are important because many children and young people have difficulties with distance learning, the Ministry of Education announced on Wednesday in Stuttgart.

In addition, some of them were very difficult to reach for online learning.

Last year, 61,500 pupils went to school voluntarily during the holidays;

6550 teachers were on duty.

According to the Federal Ministry of Education, every fourth to fifth of the approximately eleven million students across Germany has to deal with what is in some cases considerable learning backlog and needs support.

According to the Ministry of Culture, the preparatory work for the tutoring is already in full swing.

As in the previous year, the lessons are to be given by experienced educators such as teachers, trainee teachers and trainee teachers.

Preference was given to teachers who knew the students or who were supposed to teach in the next school year.

Teacher training applicants who had already received a job offer for the 2020/2021 school year also had particularly good chances.

The association of tutoring and afternoon schools had complained because its members had to stay outside the Baden-Württemberg and almost all other similar funding programs of the federal states.

According to the ministry, critical feedback from the sample survey of schools that took part in the learning bridges in 2020 and from the discussions on learning materials and the corresponding training opportunities will be taken into account in the planning.

The previous participants would have rated the 13 million euro state tutoring very positively.
