Berlin (dpa) - The police are now dissolving the protest by Corona critics in the capital.

The demonstration on the Strasse des 17. Juni with more than 8,000 participants posed a threat to public safety, the police said on Wednesday.

There are ongoing and extensive violations of infection protection.

The reason for the protest was the deliberations of the Bundestag on the amended Infection Protection Act.

Minimum distances were repeatedly disregarded, and mouth and nose protection was often not worn.

The police are in action with a large number of around 2,200 officers.

The Reichstag building and the Brandenburg Gate are largely cordoned off.

The police had previously repeatedly called for compliance with the corona hygiene rules via loudspeaker.

There have been some temporary arrests for not wearing mouth and nose protection, police said.

Nationwide there have been calls on the Internet to travel to Berlin and take to the streets there.
