Potsdam (dpa / bb) - The renovation of the Hochstraßenbrücke in Potsdam is one of the largest construction projects of the State Road Administration and is currently causing slow traffic - part of it is now finished ahead of schedule.

As the Brandenburg Ministry of Infrastructure announced, the western bridge structures were completed on Wednesday - around three weeks before the planned date.

This improved the traffic conditions for the remainder of the construction period.

The preparations for the demolition of the second half of the Hochstrasse bridge were therefore already made at the end of last year. The demolition should be in mid-May (May 14th), as it was said. For this, the traffic junction in the area of Friedrich-List-Straße will be completely closed until May 19. The demolition of the bridge over the railway and Friedrich-Engels-Straße is planned for July this year.

A total of 10,000 cubic meters of concrete and 2,000 tons of steel are to be used to replace the bridge, among other things.

Around 60,800 vehicles drive through this area within one day.

The cost of around 35 million euros will be financed from the funds for the construction of state roads.

According to the ministry, gas and drinking water pipes are currently being relocated for the demolition.

Noise barriers were erected for the time of the demolition work.

Subsequently, the new construction of the bridge halves of the Hochstrasse bridge and the bridge over the Neuendorfer Anger is planned.
