April 17, 2021 The out-of-control situation of the Covid pandemic in Brazil is frightening. Italy takes precautionary measures.

An ordinance of the Ministry of Health has been published in the Official Gazette today which prohibits "entry and transit in the national territory to persons who have stayed or passed through Brazil in the previous fourteen days".

There are limited exceptions, which concern those who have registered residence in Italy from a date prior to February 13, 2021, those who intend to reach the domicile, home or residence of minor children, spouse or part of the civil union, who is authorized by the Ministry of Health, for imperative reasons of necessity, to enter Italy.

For these exceptions, however, the obligation to swab and quarantine remains for ten days.

Only a few days ago France had suspended "until further notice" all its flights with Brazil due to concerns generated by the Brazilian variant of Covid-19. The measure was announced by Prime Minister Jean Castex.

Brazil is the second largest country in terms of deaths, behind the United States, but it is the place on the planet where most people die from Covid-19, with an average of more than 3,000 deaths per day.

The lack of control of the pandemic in the country has aroused international concern and for this reason France has also joined the list of countries that have suspended flights from Brazil "until further notice" to try to prevent the expansion of the Brazilian strain of coronavirus.
